Microsoft Corporation (the parent company) announced the closure of its business in Russia back in the in March 2022. This was part of a wave of international companies leaving. Since then, Microsoft has consistently reduced its activities in Russia: it stopped selling new products and services, halted many operations, and reduced its presence.

Legal formalization of Microsoft Rus LLC closure is the final legal stage of the company liquidation process in Russia and a standard procedure for foreign companies finally leaving the market.

In its application to the court, the company cited its inability to fulfill its monetary obligations to creditors, including budgetary claims arising after March 2022, due to the cessation of operations.
